This is a morning of inspiration.  As I hopped in the shower this morning, it occurred to me that we make our own luck.  And you know what, pink makes me feel lucky!  So, after months of tossing around paint colors, I still haven’t decided whether it will be my kitchen or my entry but most definitely, one of them, needs a bit of this…

From hot to soft, pink is Fab!  To combat the ultra girly, sicky sweet, you need some edge — A bit of brown, perhaps some black, careful with damask, and maybe toss in an oriental rug for history and dimension…  Here it is!  Inspiration galore:

Mary and I have been hard at work gearing up for the next episode of our interior decorating show, Door Knock Design! This week we had the task of transforming a second bedroom into a “his & hers” second living room! Sounds crazy right!? But really it turned out to be a quite practical idea. Our lovely clients wanted a room where HE could hang out and play music and SHE could hang with him and do her knitting & crossword puzzles. We love bringing couples together even if it’s just with a little decorating!

This is what we were working with.. a cramped mess.

We got to work quickly by hitting a few local thrift stores and we scored!

We had a few surprises up our sleeves for the lovely couple so we headed to Home Depot to pick up the supplies!

But they didn’t fit in the car…. So we sat on the foam core in the parking lot hoping it would break.. it DIDN’T.

Next, we started the transformation process. We love giving new life to old things with lots of good DIYs!

While grabbing a drink at the SLS hotel in Beverly Hills this weekend, the BF & I stopped by the gift store to peruse their fabulous selection of coffee table books. To be honest there is only 2 reasons to go to the SLS for cocktails… 1)The people watching is out of control, 2) The bookstore.

We always look and never buy anything.. but to my surprise the BF picked up the American Fashion Designers At Home and insisted that we take it home. Its a great book, jam packed with inspiration! And it looks fab on our coffee table!

As I sit in preparation for an exam I am to take at 10am this morning, I am left looking back at how I arrived here.  This is something I haven’t shared with all of you, but I have been in a prayer practitioner class for the past 2 years.  This course arrived after 2 years of preliminary classes.  Essentially, four years ago, I began this journey, and I genuinely never guessed I’d end up here.  Life is a series of small choices that overtime shape your life.  Starting Fabulous On A Budget has been a similar experience.  Simply through keeping on, a path is forged.  I am so grateful.

For daytime, I kept it playful by mixing prints and adding a pop of neon.  While the color breaks apart your print, the belt shapes and defines your waist.  Here’s a little tip for mixing prints: keep the colorway similar.  Both the bag and leopard flats are in neutral hues which makes it all work.  I added the bold ring for a little glam and a jean jacket to keep in casual.

For a night out, I wanted the look to be a bit more streamlined. Rather than mixing prints, I play with textures giving this ensemble a cohesive look with depth. I added the red binocular bag because it’s a touch of color that also mimics the texture of the belt.  I stuck with all gold hardware and each piece has just that, a touch of gold which also pulls it all together.

I am counting down the days to Summer. And I have noticed that my wardrobe is starting to perk up as well. For me, its all about brights and neons right now. But by mixing them with my wardrobe staples which includes lots of denim, it makes this trend feel more wearable. Here is my take on the Texas Tuxedo. Denim on top and on the bottom which can be a hard look to pull off. But with a few pops of color, it works!
