So, I know I’m super late on the train, and The Perfectly Imperfect Home came out somewhere in Fall 2011, but I finally just ordered it on Amazon. For those of you not familiar, it is written by Deborah Needleman, founding editor of the now defunct, Domino mag (R.I.P.). It has the most lovely watercolor interior illustrations — by Virgina Johnson — throughout, echoing passed Domino featured homes. In it, Needleman gives tips and tricks on creating the lived in home of your dreams.
I just LOVE her decor philosophies from hanging art to furniture selection to arrangement and accessories — nothing is ever TOO DONE, emphasizing the character and personality of each home’s inhabitants. The model home-esque: Pottery Barn, West Elm, CB2 mass produced KIIIIIILLS me (in the bad way). Not to say, you can’t find fun pieces here and there, but we must break out of the beige and grey monotony — Color, Personality, Whimsy… your home cries! What do you love? Fill your house with it!
Do you guys have this book? What would you consider your design philosophy?
